Christmas Project #2 - Card Tree

This week at Kim's DIY party you are supposed to share your homemade gifts.  The great part is - I am actually giving a few homemade gifts this year.  The problem is, however, those people read my blog and I don't want to give away the secret!

So here's my substitute - something I made for myself :)

Last year, we received so many beautiful Chrsitmas cards.  I love the colors, and the glitter, and the touching messages - all of it.  I always feel a twinge of guilt throwing such beauties away.  So - I didn't.  And this year, with a stack of year-old greetings, I decided to make a permanent decoration with them - a card tree!

The great part of this (besides getting to reuse lovely papers) is it was virtually free!  I simply cut the cards up into squares (not precise at all), took a $1 party hat, and began hot-gluing the cards around the hat, starting at the base.  A mini ornament topped it off at the tip.

The finished product is a festive reminder of the beautiful cards we received.  If you get tons of cards, you could even do a few trees that are color coordinated and make a grouped centerpiece.

Happy crafting, yall!

  1. Cute idea Claire! I've only recently started saving them but yeah, no idea what to do with them. I think I'll wait to see what I get this year and get to making them. This is going on my to-make list for next year.

  2. I LOVE this idea!! I hate throwing away cards of any kind (especially the ones with personal messages in them) and I'm always looking for creative ways to save and display them. I also like to frame my favorites! Thanks for the inspiration!

  3. I love this idea! I always feel bad about throwing out cards, too. At some point, you may end up with your very own forest of past cards. Love that!
