Dare to... Deck the Halls!

This week's goal is to make some Christmasified decor for your home.  I tried to go a little lower key this year on the decorations, since it already seems so cluttered in our house these days.  Yet that didn't stop me from making some ornaments for the tinsel tree I have in our bedroom.

I made salt dough ornaments, using this recipe from Delighted Momma.  However, I found I needed to cook them for more like 4 hours instead of 20 minutes.  Not sure why the discrepancy, but it just took that long to get them fully hardened.  I did it in 30 minute increments, then flipped.

I also used stuff around the kitchen to make patterns in the dough - the meat tenderizer star was  my favorite :)  [the baby hand print ones are going to be gifts!]

Once they were cooked I just painted them fun colors, Mod Podged for durability, and strung them up with floral wire.

They jazz up this little tree, although I kind of want to put them on their own tree - maybe for Harper's room - I just haven't found a mini tree yet.

Who knows if they will last a year in the heat of the attic, but we shall see!

If the sun comes out this week I'm going to try to take pictures of the rest of our holiday decor.

Go check out the other projects

All of the projects are also being linked up to these fun blogs - check them out there too!

  1. Adorable! I love the bright colors you used. Thanks for commenting on my wreath. I smiled when I saw your blog name as I have a friend from Peachtree City and I hadn't heard that town name in awhile.

  3. These are adorable! I love the idea of having them in Harper's room, too.

Also - I'm cracking up about it taking 4 hours instead of 20 minutes. That's totally something that would happen to me.

Thanks for being such a great supporter of Dare to DIY this year. Loved seeing your projects.

  5. Love it Claire! Did Mom ever give you your tree that we used to have in our rooms when we were little? I just got mine from their house and put it up in Lyla's room with my old ornaments and plan on letting her add her own each year - you can do that with Harper! Sentimental sorta. Your so crafty, I couldnt even think of doing something like that much less completing it! Love you and can't wait to see you guys in 14 days!
