Dare to... Give Homemade!

Over the years, a new tradition has evolved within my family where my sisters and I make homemade gifts for each other, with a $10 and under price tag.  It's really nice because we don't have to spend a lot of money on gifts that mean nothing - but instead get to think creatively and try to one-up each other make each other happy (we're sisters, after all).

You can see a few things they have made me and I have made them here and here. Gifts have included necklaces, refinished furniture, photo mugs, and coasters.

I think it's safe to share what I'm making for my sister Caitlin because she doesn't read my blog regularly (if you are reading, go away!!).

Caitlin's dog Bennett is quite goofy-looking - which makes for fantastic pictures of him.

So I decided to make her a little dog art for her apartment showcasing her favorite little monster.

It was hard to photo, since I Mod Podged the whole thing in gloss, but you get the idea.  I painted a cheap canvas with acrylic paint and printed out the dog photo above.  I traced it onto scrapbook paper and podged it down.  Very easy - and under $10.  I think she will like it!

I'll try to share my other homemade gifts after the holidays - but seriously, who cares then?? :)

Go check out the other projects

All of the projects are also being linked up to these fun blogs - check them out there too!

  6. What a great tradition! I love the art you made - perfect colors. I think I may need one of our dog too, although she's rather fluffy, so I'm not sure how the silhouette would turn out.
