A Martha-esque Weekend

This weekend, I got my Martha on.  The weather was beautiful - and I got to do a little bit of everything the good lady would admire - socializing, exploring, baking, decoupaging, cleaning, and planting.

We celebrated Greg's birthday with a delicious meal at Fox Brothers BBQ (if you live in Atlanta, check it out!).

The infamous Barnes Bunch was in town, and I was so happy to spend a few hours them in the warm sun at Little Five Points.

I made Hidden Kisses cookies (which were delish).  No pictures because I ate them before I had the chance to photograph them.

I planted some lantana (an old favorite) and some pink impatiens.  I love both of these annuals because they grow fast and don't require too much attention and/or me remembering to water them more frequently than every two weeks...

I tried to ameliorate my sorry Easter decor by taking inspiration from Centsational Girl and getting my modpodge on.  It's like fingerpainting with glue - fun for hours!

I got our Easter baskets all ready for the bunny's visit.  I wanted baskets that would last a while, so I opted to buy $1 baskets at the thrift store and paint them.  Granted, I spent about $5 on paint, and it would have been cheaper to buy new baskets from Walmart, but you know what, I love to spraypaint and I felt like being domestic so I "made" my own from scratch so there.

All in all, wonderful weekend.  Now, if this silly little week would just go ahead and get on with it, that would be great.  Thankyouverymuch.

On The Road Again

It's carting weather again!  We dusted off the golfcart this weekend to enjoy the high temps and shining sun.

It's the little things in life, ya know?

Ava Grace

I'm happy to report that little Ava Grace was born on Wednesday 3/17 at 7:17pm.  Ava was determined to be born on a holiday - she was due on Easter, but came on St. Patrick's Day.  She weighed in at 5 pounds, 13 ounces and 20 inches long.

She is absolutely beautiful and I say that without any smidgen whatsoever of biasness (ok, well, I'm totally biased because I have been on pins and needles waiting for all of these babies ever since I got the good news about all of them!).  But seriously, she is beautiful!  I hate to admit, but some babies look a little, well, alien, for a while... but not this girl!  She has a full head of dark hair (of course!) and stunning dark eyes.

Her momma had a rough day (that ended up in a c-section after a full day of hard labor!) but everyone is healthy which makes me soooo happy!!  I hope Jennifer recovers quickly.

I was so grateful that Jon and Jennifer let us be there with them on that day (even in their room for some of the day!).  We were happy to be there and so glad we got to share in the day.  After Ava was born, we got to watch through a window as they did all of the fun tests, bath, poking and prodding, and got her all baby-burritoed up.  Along with Jennifer's parents, we were glued to that glass like little kids, squealing uncontrollable nonsense words (ok, well, that was just me...).

It is SO amazing that the little girl we were watching had JUST come out of her mom... how can that even happen?  The whole pregnancy/birth process is so mind-boggling, isn't it??

And I have to brag about my little niece - besides already being a stunner at age five minutes, she was so unbelievably calm and aware.  She hardly fussed as the nurse did her checkups, and she calmly laid there just looking around, taking in the world, and watching her daddy.  She even looked over at us in the window and waved!

Ok, well, she didn't do that exactly, but I swear she looked over!  We never even really heard her cry (although, since, I'm sure her parents have!).

I want to make Holding Babies my #1 hobby for 2010.

Although Ava was a bit early (2ish weeks) we are so happy she is here and healthy.  I can't wait to go back once they are settled at home and work on my hobby.

1 down, 1 to go :)

Egging Me On

It was 68 degrees outside today.  6 freaking 8!  That means spring is right around the corner, and I cannot wait

For as much as I complain about the weather, isn't it an amazing feeling when the sun starts shining again, the grass begins to show just a tint of green, and the heavy oppression of winter lifts inch by inch, revealing a big wide open blue sky that has been hiding for six months?  Without winter's terrible gloom, I don't think spring would be the uplifting time it is.  It's something to look forward to and anticipate, which to me only otherwise comes around near the holidays.

And besides, come August, I will be cursing the blazing sun and the intolerable humidity.

So in my anticipation of weekends spent working in the yard, my vitamin D count going up, and the overall awesomeness that is spring - I have tried to spruce up the house with a little Easter inspiration.

The sad thing is, my collection is a little lacking.  My mom got me this awesome Easter ornament tree (Grammy always had one growing up and I loved it) - but right now it's only sporting two ornaments.  But I want them each to mean something, so it will just have to be filled out slowly year by year.

My mantle got a little springy thanks to $1 worth of plastic eggs from Dollar Tree, and our bookcase has a few little Eastery touches.

I'm kinda in love with this little chick - $3 from this amazing vintique shop Nostalgia in Knoxville.

I can't wait for the days of perusing the garden section of Home Depot and adding a little color to this house!

Baby Belly(s)

Wow... I'm really falling behind on updating my loyal thousands on my daily activities... As soon as I start getting home before 8 pm, I will get right back on it!

Well, things are getting down to the wire - in a month or two we will have two nieces!!  We had the opportunity to go to Knoxville and see Courtney (and the rest of the fam, of course!) and also got to go down to Columbus to see Jennifer and Jon.  Both mamas are looking wonderful, and the closer it gets the more excited I get to meet these little girls!

And because I can't stop taking pictures when I'm around pregnant people:
